NEW ANTI-HOONING LEGISLATION - much-needed legislation of the "3 strikes and you're out" type has been introduced.
"DRIVESAFE NT" TO REPLACE DTAL - the NT government's new road safety initiates include a new driver training & licensing program.
DTAL / DRIVESAFE NT TO TRANSFER FROM DET to DPI - the DTAL program has been administered by the Dept of Education & Training, but now it (and its replacement program DriveSafe NT) will be transferred to DPI (Dept Planning and Infrastructure, including the Motor Vehicle Registry MVR).

THE EVOLUTION OF DTAL - the NT's unique DTAL (Driver Training And Licensing) Program has been running for several years now.
This is my opinion (remember, MY opinion only) on how effective the DTAL Program is proving to be.

KEEPING TO THE LEFT - why does Australia, New Zealand, the UK and some other countries, drive on the left?

GIVE WAY TO BUSES when they are signalling to or moving out of a bus stop - now mandatory in the NT.
DEFAULT SPEED LIMIT LOWERED - the default limit in built-up areas has been lowered from 60km/h to 50km/h. Why?
50km/h DEFAULT SPEED LIMIT ACCEPTANCE - now that the new 50km/h default limit for built-up areas is in place, and the "hoo-hah" has died down, how wide is the acceptance by the motoring public of this new restriction.
ARE WE THE 2ND WORST DRIVERS? - statistics for 2003 indicate this could be true, in the western or developed world at least.
IS DTAL WORKING? - concerns within the driver training industry about the efffectiveness of the DTAL program.
WHAT IS HAPPENING TO DTAL? - confusion, consternation and outrage from driver trainers and their students after sudden changes made to the DTAL logbook training & licencing system.
NOT ALL QUESTIONS ANSWERED - a conference between the authorites and driving instructors goes some way towards alleviating fears about drastic changes made to the DTAL program, but have all concerns been satisfactorally addressed?
CHANGES TO DRIVING TEST - the Vehicle On Road Test (VORT) conducted by the Motor Vehicle Registry has just been made tougher.
